Community Involvement
Hunger Center Donation Program
Our doctors feel a close bond with the Hunger Center at St. Augustine, thanks in part to their close involvement there during dental school. Beginning in July of 2007, Southwest Endodontics & Periodontics donates $1 from every procedure done at our offices to the Hunger Center at St. Augustine in Cleveland. From root canals to implants, every time a patient walks through our doors, we make a contribution to those in need.
Volunteering
In addition, members of our staff, including our doctors, have and will continue to volunteer at the Hunger Center preparing, serving, and cleaning up after meals. Staff and doctors have brought friends, and we have been joined by staff from other dental offices in the area as well. If you would like to join us for our next volunteering opportunity, please contact our office at (440)-546-1116. (Please note that due to the pandemic we have temporarily paused inviting guests to join us – hopefully we will be able to bring along friends with us soon!)
Mission Trips
Dr. Hahn used his expertise as a health professional to participate in a mission trip to Haiti. Joining Dr. Jim Cuglewski, he provided dental care to hundreds of Haitians during his time there, including many that traveled far and wide to take advantage of a rare chance to see a dentist. Since then, Dr. Hahn has traveled with Dr. Lee on a yearly mission trip to Bolivia, providing dental care to the local population, distributing dental supplies to those in need, and helping to improve the village infrastructure. Dr. Hahn and Dr. Lee have made seven mission trips to Bolivia since 2013 and are planning their next visit for 2022!
Teaching
Dr. Lee has served the community by teaching as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Case Western Reserve University Dental School for 20 years. Dr. Lee works with the periodontal dental residents every Friday, assisting them with various procedures and techniques. Dr. Vig and Dr. Hahn have also served at Case Western Reserve University Dental School as Assistant Clinical Professors, lending advice and support to the future of endodontics.
Cuyahoga Valley Career Center
Dr. Hahn, Dr. Lee, and our Practice Manager, Michael, serve the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center as members of their Dental Assisting Program Advisory Council. This group, which is made up of local dental professionals in the surrounding area, meet during the year to review the status of the program and to offer support, guidance, and professional recommendations as necessary. Since 2008, Michael has visited the dental assisting seniors as a guest lecturer on successful interviewing, providing a depth of information as well as conducting mock interviews with one-on-one coaching on-site for every student.
